SAIS Media & Politics

web pic_edited.jpg

From disinformation campaigns to transnational online activism, from the commercialization of spyware to the targeting of journalists, from the emergence of meme cultures as a tool of protest to states’ use of television as a platform for nation-building and soft power diplomacy, world events mandate that universities study international affairs in media and cultural literacy.

The SAIS MPI promotes the sharing of methods & productive critique. We consciously challenge the disciplinary gate-keeping and turf wars we have observed in trying to merge and refine insights from various fields.

We are from the internet picture_edited.

We contextualize and critically “read” media and the myriad ways it plays out in politics, local and global, democratic and authoritarian, and everything in between. MPI supports the creation of extracurricular and research programs in this field.
